Vyborg Shipyard launched an icebreaking support ship “Aleksandr Sannikov”.

On 24 November Vyborg Shipyard launched the icebreaker “Aleksandr Sannikov”. It is the lead vessel of the project Arc130A designed by Aker Arctic Technology (Finland) for “Gazprom Neft Novy Port”.

The vessel is intended to escort tankers, to assist during mooring, loading and rescue operations, to provide tugging assistance, firefighting and participation in oil spill response activities.

The class of “Aleksandr Sannikov” is Icebreaker8 and the ship is able to overcome the ice field with thickness up to 2 meters.

Technical features:

  • Displacement: about 8700 t
  • Main dimensions: 121.7 m, breadth – 26 m, draught – 8.2 m.
  • Maximum speed: 16 knots.
  • Power: 22 MW (other data 29MW).
  • Icebreaking capability: 2 m.
  • Autonomy: 30 days.
  • Crew: 35 persons.
